Consortia/Exchange FAQs

A: The Exchange Program is open to all undergraduate students with a minimum 2.5 GPA (some schools require a 3.0 GPA). You must be a sophomore (at the time of application). One year in residence at Howard is required.

A: No, generally a GPA of 2.5 is required; however, there are certain schools that require a 3.0 GPA.

A: No, you pay tuition to Howard University. Students are responsible for room and board, books and any fees incurred at the host school as well as travel expenses. The cost of housing that is normally paid to Howard (through financial aid, and most scholarships etc.) will be refunded to you for housing at the host university.

A: Yes, in most cases.

A: Yes, with careful planning, your exchange experience can fit right into your degree program so that your graduation isn’t delayed. Also, your last thirty credits must be completed at Howard University (The last thirty credit rule does not apply to the School of Communications.)

A: Yes, after you have selected the university you want to attend, and accessed the Websites for course selections, you would consult with your advisor and discuss and plan your program. Your advisor must sign off on the courses you have selected – verifying that they are comparable to Howard University’s courses. The exchange courses will appear on your Howard record and will be averaged into your GPA.

A: Yes. You will participate in General Registration just as if you where attending classes at Howard. You also must request your financial aid and/or scholarships just as if you were here to remain validated while you are away.

A: Now! It’s never too early to start planning and preparation. However, applying early in the semester preceding your departure is absolutely essential.

A: Students are invited to participate in the exchange program for up to one academic year.
